From Alexander to Picasso: Artistic perspectives in the Musée d’Art Classique de Mougins

Dr. Mark Merrony

The principal concept of the Musée d’Art Classique de Mougins is the dynamic juxtaposition of ancient and modern art in the same exhibition space. This refreshing configuration represents a radical departure from the way conventional museums are ordered by civilizations or art historically. The lecture explores the interplay of Greek and Roman art with neoclassical, modern, and contemporary art; and examines how artists, such as Rubens, Chagall, Matisse, and Picasso, have reinterpreted the myths and personalities of the Graeco-Roman world with exceptional artistic sensibility.
